Increase your Reach with a Service Organization
Some organizations meet weekly and have set aside a portion of their meeting for a presentation. With around 50 meetings a year, they are hungry for speakers to present to their group.
To become a better-known and polished speaker, saturate your local market with speaking engagements. Soon people won’t be able to avoid seeing your name as the featured speaker, the headliner, a supporting break-out instructor, and more. Another bonus of this method is that it doesn’t matter whether your target market is business or personal. The people in the room are professionals, and of course they are people who have families and everyday concerns as well.
As an added bonus, the professionals in the room are from a wide variety of businesses and hold many different positions. Ask the people you sit with or who thank you afterwards for opportunities to present at their place of business. This may also give you a ready opportunity to do longer presentations with a fee.

Industry Associations
Industry Associations are a great way of finding a specific business target market. Usually these associations have the money to pay Speakers if you ask politely and are within their secretive budget. It is easier to find paid speaking jobs at industry conferences.
Quality over quantity; this is not a numbers game. It’s important to only pick a handful of well targeted associations and ones you feel are a perfect fit to start. Nurture them, build relationships and amazing opportunities can happen.

My One Powerful Change to Make Yourself Crash Proof
A lot of times I write about the nuts-n-bolts of running your speaking business and building your speaking platform. Speaker websites. Managing & finding leads. Hiring your speaker support team. And for good reason.
You have to focus on those two areas of your career, business & platform, to create a solid place to launch your success from, or it will not be sustainable.
You are a professional public speaker, but you are also a business manager and platform building coach, all at the same time. If you’re in this solo, meaning without an assistant or team, right now, you are wearing many, many hats. That might be overwhelming, or, it might be perfectly inside your wheelhouse.

Transitioning from Free Speaking to Paid Speaking
One of my Charli Jane Speaker Club members recently asked this question:
“I’ve been speaking for free for over a year now. It seems that my free speaking attracts more free opportunities. How do I transition to paid speaking?” She said that her audience has been mostly women so far, but her message could speak to any gender. She continued to say that she has firmed up her keynote signature talk. She was very clear in her business focus: “My goal, for now, is to speak, get paid and find clients who want to do 1/1 coaching.”

Find Your X-Factor To Go Beyond Name Recognition
What do you want to be known for? The fact of the matter is that people may not always remember your name in the speaking business. What makes you memorable is your message or the key thing that you do for your audiences. Once you know what that is, use that to become known for it and go beyond just your name alone.
How many times have you been asked if you know someone by name, only to have your memory jogged when the person asks you, “You know, the guy who does x”. X stands for whatever it is that makes that person stand out and memorable.
